 Spotlight1
Claire’s Comfy Canines advertises itself as home of the Original Doggy Day Care Centre in South Bucks and are justifiably proud of all their achievements since they first launched in 2010. Owner Claire also prides herself on the fact that their strict induction process, highly experienced and skilled team and stringent security and inspection protocols ensure their service is unique and unparalleled. With a careful mix of structured playtime, quiet time, one-2-one training sessions and even the possibility for a wash and groom in the Comfy Cutz Spa, there is certainly plenty to keep your dog happy and occupied from dawn to dusk.

Claire kindly took a few minutes from her hectic schedule to answer a few questions:

Q. You gave up a career in recruitment to set up Claire’s Comfy Canines. How hard a decision was that to make?
A.
The day we picked up our puppy Belle, made giving up recruitment easy. It was love at first sight and I knew I couldn’t leave her with any one. I did research dogBelle walkers and met 5, but when it came down to it, I felt none of the people offered the safety and love I wanted for Belle when we were out at work. So I set about looking for a job that combined being with Belle and earning a living. I have always been ambitious and have a strong sales and marketing background, so getting the business off the ground was no trouble. However, looking back 5 years, I guess I never thought it would be this sucessful, we now have 3 full time staff, plus part-time and have nearly 100 different dogs every week who attend creche, plus our spa and our small shop.

Q. You are a big supporter of raw feeding and are happy to offer advice to those who would like to consider it for their dogs. What, in your opinion, is the most important reason for considering feeding raw?
A.
There are many health benefits for considering raw feeding, and it’s a topic I can talk about at length. But my one reason, which I say to everyone who asks me why I would choose it, is mainly due to the purity of raw. I know if I open a pack of tripe or a bag of chicken wings, thats what I am getting, however, even with the best kibble on the market, you never truly know what you are feeding.

Q. What best thing and the worst thing about your job?
A.
The best thing about my job, is without a doubt, seeing dogs grow and develop. Whether they come to us as pups or older dogs, it is a priviledge to work with them all. The worst thing is by far the wet weather. Its a fabulous job and working Claire's Comfy Caninesoutside is something you have to love, but when its been raining for weeks and the dogs are filthy, and you are cleaning all day long to keep the dogs, buildings and beds clean and warm, it really tests your love of the job.

Q. Is there any particular amusing or embarrassing incident that has occurred since you started that you are willing to share with us?
A.
Every day is interesting and always throws up an embarrassing story. Whether its falling in the mud, putting your hand in dog pooh, or the dogs being particularly full of beans, it’s a non stop, full on day, and every one is different.

Q. With hindsight, is there anything you would have done differently or would like to change if you could?
A.
The one thing I would have done differently? Started 10 years ago.

Q. What gets you out of bed in the mornings?
A.
The sheer love of the job I do, the people who work for me and the fun we have every day – is all that gets me up in the morning.

Q. Claire’s Comfy Canines already offers Day Care, a Grooming Spa and a small but well-stocked natural dog food shop for your clients, what’s next?Naturally for Pets
A.
The next step for Claires Comfy Canines, is already under way. We are closing down the shop to make way for more day care dogs, we have a waiting list for doggy day care and desperately need extra space. We have launched Naturally 4 pets, which will replace the shop, offering a free delivery service of raw and natural foods, with free diet advice for those who need a helping hand. I am currently studying a Diploma in Canine Care & Nutrition to support the work I do with diet.

To find out even more about the services and products they have to offer, why not check out Claire’s Comfy Canines for yourself!
